Xbox 360 Review: video game platform by Disney Interactive Studios and Black Rock Studio

ATV racing always seems to make for an enjoyable experience on a video game platform.  This has been evident in the past with the ATV Offroad series, and other offerings from various developers.  Throwing their hat into the ring is Black Rock Studio, which has released Pure, a new off-road ATV racing game which may just blow you away.

This is not your typical ATV off-road racing game, that I have to make known right from the start.  The developers at Black Rock, which is formerly known as Climax, have actually worked on the ATV Offroad series in the past, so they were not rookies.

This is not a simulation though, as this is one crazy, over-the-top racing experience that will thrill you and have you on the edge of your seat.

The gameplay is where Pure really shines, as the system in place allows for a pick-up-and-play feel, while still having plenty of depth.  You have the ability to pre-load jumps before you hit ramps, and the whole weight and such of the ATVs and bikes feels spot-on.

The trick system is where Pure takes the cake though, as you can do a variety of things with the face buttons and analog stick to pull off some crazy tricks.  As you progress through the game, you will be able to do more intense tricks.  Always stay fresh with your tricks as well, it will pay off.

In regards to the game modes, the main portion of the single-player experience is in the World Tour, where you will take a racer, build up your bike, and off you go.  You start out slow, but as you get going things get far more difficult.

The three basic race modes include Sprint, Race, and Freestyle.  The first two are self-explanatory ,but Freestyle is where it is at.  This is where there is no finish line.  You have a set amount of time to get the highest trick score possible, use your imagination here!

On top of the single player stuff, the online mode is plentiful as well, as you can do all three of these events online, along with another mode known as Freeride, allowing you to score points based on your racing as well as tricks.

Pure, from an audio and visual standpoint, is a beautiful looking game.  The areas are varied, and the level of detail, the sense of speed, all of that good stuff will really blow you away.

There is not too much to complain about with Pure.  If you a fan of over-the-top racing experiences such as Burnout and things of that nature, this is a must buy.  It may lack a bit of depth, but overall I highly recommend picking up Pure!

Graphics: 9.2 A stunning game, it will blow you away with the sense of speed, details, etc.

Audio: 9.0 The sound effects are spot-on, and will give you plenty to fill your home theater.

Gameplay: 9.2 The game is just damn fun, a blast to control!

Replay Value: 8.5 The single-player campaign could have been a bit longer.  Online makes up for it though!

Final Score: 9.0
